Creating a platform for inspiration and opportunities for your inner leader to flourish

More than ever, budding and established women entrepreneurs need to tap into the skills and experience of other successful female business leaders.

According to the 2019 Rose Review, only one in three entrepreneurs are women and research shows that many British women in business have never had a formal mentor. A study in 2013 by RBS suggests that women account for only 17% of business owners (ie. owners/managers/employers) in total. Although this is great testament to those who are succeeding, it suggests that a great deal more would be leading our companies if there were an abundant precedent.

The Rose Review goes on to point out that In 2017, only 5.6% of UK women were running their own businesses, compared to 15% of women in Canada, almost 11% of women in the US, and over 9% of women in Australia and the Netherlands.

Britain, for all its pioneering spirit and modernity is clearly falling behind some of its peers in this statistic – one we might all benefit from.

The aforementioned, government commissioned Rose Review found that targeting help for female founders could generate a £250 billion boost for the UK economy.

Women are excellent leaders and great entrepreneurs

Sometimes growing the confidence to succeed, even after periods of great achievement can be hard. Many women still find themselves in unchartered territory, whether they’re in a place that only men have been before or, indeed, no-one has been before. In any case, it is often those who readily appeal for good advice who thrive the easiest.

Vesta Mentora works with women clients to make sure they have a positive role model, challenging ideas and acting as a sounding board and critical friend. Mentoring is always about keeping an open mind and listening with empathy, helping to see the bigger picture and providing constructive support and advice.

“It’s okay to admit what you don’t know. It’s okay to ask for help. And it’s more than okay to listen to the people you lead – in fact, it’s essential.”
